In transverse waves, particles of the medium oscillate in a direction perpendicular to the direction of propagation of waves. In longitudinal waves particles of the medium oscillates in the direction of propagation of waves.

1] Transverse wave :-The particles of the medium vibrate perpendicular to the direction of the propagation of wave
Example - Light wave

2] Longitudinal Wave :-The particles of the medium vibrate parallel to the direction of the propagation of wave

Example - Sound wave
