Maps are very easy to use. However, it is difficult to show the spherical Earth on a flat piece of paper.

The Earth's surface is like an orange, i.e. speical but slightly flattened at the top and bottom. If we try to peel of the whole skin of an orange and flatten it, it will have many wrinkles and cuts .
