The ability to retain an image is called as its persistence of vision.

Our Brain and eyes retain a vision for about 1/30 of a second. This time is actually depends on the brightness of the image. As the brightness increases or decreases the retaining time will thus also increases or decreases.

thakuravinash: then how many images can be recognised by our eyes in a sec.
