The primary duty of the president in India is to preserve , protect and Defend the constitution and the law of India per article 60.

3)cheif administrator

4)chief diplomat

5)commander in chief

etc..... chief of the state refers to the president who is the head of the government .

President is the head of state of india who governs india on the advice of prime minister and the cabinet of ministers.All the laws passed by parliament must have president's sanction.

Duties and works of President :-

1. A law come in force only after approval by President.

2. President appoints the prime minister and his council of ministers who is generally the leader of majority party in Lok Sabha and enjoys the confidence of lok sabha.

3. All the actions of government are performed in the name of president.

4. President is the supreme commander of armed forces in India.

4. He appoints governor of states and Lt. Governors in Delhi and Pondicherry.

5. President appoints the chief justice and other justices in supreme courts and high courts of India.

6. President appoints chief election commissioner and other commissioners.

7. President can pardon a convicated person or can reduce his sentence.
