During an attempt to make a circumnavigational flight of the globe in 1937 in a Purdue-funded Lockheed Model 10-E Electra, Earhart and navigator Fred Noonandisappeared over the central Pacific Ocean near Howland Island. Fascination with her life, career, and disappearance continues to this day
Hi there. Amelia Mary Earhart, famous for being the world's first female aviator (airplane pilot) to fly on her own across the Atlantic Ocean, was born in Kansas, USA on July 24, 1897. She was the daughter of Edwin Earhart, a lawyer and Amy Otis whose father was a federal judge.
Amelia and her sister Grace were both active kids and loved being on adventures. They loved exploring their neighborhood, climbed trees, went hunting rats with a rifle. Amelia's first interest in flying a plane was with a home-made ramp that looked like a roller coaster, secured it on their roof and rode on it like a sled as if she was "flying". She was 7 years old.
In 1937, Amelia Earhart, with navigator Fred Noonan, attempted to make a circumnavigate the globe. They both disappeared over the central Pacific Ocean near Howland Island and were never seen up to this day.
