when rock salt or pure sodium chloride is electrolysed then chlorine gas evolves from cathode and sodium is deposited at anode.
this is due to the fact that opposite charges attract each other.
chlorine being negatively charged Nia is attracted towards cathode having positive charge
sodium having positive charge is attracted towards negatively charged anode due to the same cause.
