THE ELEMENT OF IRONY IS:-

Abel Merryweather,who is believed as the departed is not even a bit dear and precious to them.The only thing the daughters are interested is in the money and the valuables he has.

Irony here is that the title of story is ' THE DEAR DEPARTED ' but in the poem no one is dear i.e. no one loves Abel Merryweather, who, they ( his daughters) think has died
