What is the equation of the line perpendicular to 2x – 3y = 13 that passes through the point (–6, 5)?

Answer :

    The required line is 3x + 2y + 8 = 0

Step by step solution :

The given line is

2x - 3y = 13 .....(i)

Let us consider the perpendicular line of (i) no. line to be

3x + 2y = k .....(ii)

Given that, (ii) no. line passes through the point (-6, 5)

Then, 3 (-6) + 2 (5) = k

    or, - 18 + 10 = k

    or, k = - 8

Therefore, the required perpendicular line is

                     3x + 2y = - 8

             i.e., 3x + 2y + 8 = 0
