What is the evolutionary value of memory? Does answering this question suggest anything about what memories we might be most likely to hold onto? DO NOT COPY

Memory aided in human survival and reproduction since the days of hunter/gatherer caveman days.

FWIW, it’s not restricted to homo sapiens. Animals have it too.

If you are a hunter/gatherer and you found a productive fishing/hunting/gathering spot, it would give you a HUGE SURVIVAL advantage if you can RECALL THE LOCATION AGAIN later when you/your family/clan/village GOT HUNGRY LATER.

If you wanted to find/steal a mate, it would give one a HUGE ADVANTAGE if one can recall the basic habits of a potential mate or his/her family/husband(s) since otherwise, you might not get the mate or be injured/killed
