What is the exact Saponification Reaction??
The reaction given in our NCERT 10th std textbook is for sure wrong!(~_~;)(~_~;)

Saponification is a chemical reaction that produces surfactants and glycerol from fatty acid triglycerides from lye and oil.

EXAMPLE: CH3COOC2H5 ----------------> CH3COOH + C2H5OH

When an Ester is reacted with the alkali sodium hydroxide, the corresponding alcohol and carboxylic acid are obtained back. This reaction is called saponification reaction.

It is used for preparation of soap from fats.
