File extension is a group of letters that determines or signifies the type of file it is. It can also be defined as an identifier, written as a suffix after the given file name and this determines the nature or type of the computer file.


For example: .gfx is used for graphics files, .txt is used for plain text files, .docx is used for Microsoft Word, etc.


Similarly, for a file of Scratch file, the extension most often used is .sb and interestingly SmallBasic files also have the same extension.
