\underline{\boxed{\sf{\pink{LCM : Least \ Common \ Multiple}}}}

  • The Least Common Multiple of two or more given numbers is the smallest number that is a common multiple of the given numbers Like The LCM of 6 and 9 is 18 .
  • The LCM of two or more numbers is always greater than or equal to any of the numbers.
  • The LCM of two prime numbers or co-prime numbers is equal to the product of the numbers.
  • The HCF of two or more given numbers is always a factor of their LCM.
  • If one number is a multiple of other then the LCM of these two numbers is the larger number.

\large{\star} There are three methods to find LCM of numbers

1.  \sf{Common \ Multiple \ Method}

2. \sf{Prime \ Factorisation \ Method}

3. \sf{Division \ Method}

 \bf{ \boxed{ \red{ \tt{what \: is \: LCM \: }}}}

  • LCM stands for least common multiple

  • LCM is the smallest number other than 0 that is multiple of 2 or more whole number

  • the LCM of relative prime numbers is the product of those numbers

  • The least common multiple is otherwise known as the lowest common multiple.

  • The LCM of two prime numbers or co-prime numbers is equal to the product of the numbers.

  • The HCF of two or more given numbers is always a factor of their LCM.

How to find LCM

  • To find the LCM we find the prime factor of given number

  • we consider common prime factor only

Example

Find the LCM of 12 and 16 .

First we find the prime factor of the given numbers

then

 \sf{12 = 2 \times 2 \times 3}

 \sf{8  = 2 \times 2 \ \times 2}

 \sf{3 \times 2 \times 2 \times 2 = 24}

 \sf{lcm \: of \: 12 \: and \: 8 \: is \: 24}

  • We can also find the L.C.M. of the given numbers by dividing all the numbers at the same time by a number that divides at least two of the given numbers.
