EXPLANATION:

• Before the advent of East India Company, the region of present-day Uttar Pradesh was divided into many small kingdoms like the Awadh, or the Bundelkhand kingdoms.
• After the East India Company established it's control of Bengal and Bihar after the battles of Plassey and Buxar in 1757 and 1764 respectively, they named the area as North West Province.
• They also added the regions of Ajmer and Jaipur kingdoms were added in North Western Province. But, after the revolt of 1857, the British once again renamed the area of Uttar Pradesh.
• This time they carved out Ajmer and Jaipur kingdoms and then added the Awadh and Bundelkhand areas and renamed it as the United Province, which was later changed to Uttar Pradesh after independence of India in 1947.
