Catalytic converters are used in exhaust systems to provide a site for the oxidation and reduction of toxic by-products (like nitrogen oxides, carbon monoxide, and hydrocarbons) of fuel into less hazardous substances such as carbon dioxide, water vapor, and nitrogen gas.

the functions of a catalytic converter are-

  1. it is a device used in cars to reduce air pollution.
  2. the device convert harmful substances like carbon monoxide, nitric oxide, nitrogen dioxide and hydrocarbons,etc. which are exhausted from the cars into less harmful substances like carbon dioxide and water vapor .
  3. the substance are converted by certain chemical reactions that take place in the device itself.
