A lytic vacuole known as the lysosome typically functions to process macromolecules. Such macromolecules can be targeted to the lysosome from sites of synthesis.

A vacuole is simply a sort of cellular shuttle with a protein coat that moves material within the cell, though it interacts with cell surface as well. An activated factor allows it to carry digestive enzymes with a protective coating and it can either temporarily become a mini lysosomes and digest material or mature and become a permanent lysosome.
