Cartilage is a hard but flexible connective tissue. It is highly adapted to resist any strains that are placed upon it. It occurs between the surface of the bones where they meet. Cartilage provides cushion to the bones at joints and prevents its wear and tear.

Functions of Cartilage :

  • It can bend a bit, but resists stretching. Its main function is to connect bones together.

  • It is also found in the joints, the rib cage, the ear, the nose, the throat and between the bones of the back

  • It create a place on which bones can form when they are first developed.
