what is the function of internodes? are the nodes of the stemof the same length? which part of the stem has relatively longer internodes?
Answers
You have three questions. I have divided it into three parts a, b, c
a. Internode denotes, the part of the stem between two nodes. Since internode is part of the stem, its functions are same as that of stem.
- it provides support to the leaf, flower and fruit.
- it transports fluids
- it stores nutrients and
- it produces new living tissues
b.The length of the internode vary among the plant species. The length of the internode in a normal plant, vary with age, but are same, at the time of flowering. When the plant is in good soil, with adequate nutrient and water, the internodes are almost shorter. But when the plant undergoes water or nutrient stress, the internode distance increases.
c. The internode vary between species. Some plants have very small internodes, example grapes. Some plants have long internodes, example strawberry. The longer internodes are usually found near the base, where the plant attaches to the soil.
The function of an internode is to link the nodes of a plant together. This allows food hormones and water to be distributed throughout the nodes of the plant. Internodes are easily visible on a plant. They are the section of stem that runs from one node to the next. This is basically the function of internodes.
