The neurons (or excitable nerve cells) of the nervous system conduct electrical impulses, or signals, that serve as communication between sensory receptors, muscles and glands, and the brain and spinal cord.

Depending on the functions neurons are of three types:

1) Sensory Neurons transmits impulse from sense organs to central nervous system.

2) Motor Neurons carries impulses from brain and spinal cord to effector organs.
