What is the function of parathyroid hormone (PTH)?

When the calcium in our blood goes too low, the parathyroid glands make more PTH. Increased PTH causes the body to put more calcium into the blood. Increased PTH causes the bones to release their calcium into the blood

Parathyroid Glands:  

 Four parathyroid glands are present on back side of thyroid gland, one pair each in two lobes of thyroid gland.

 Parathyroid glands secrete a peptide hormone called parathyroid hormone (PTH).

 Secretion of PTH is regulated by blood calcium levels.

 PTH is a hypercalcemic hormone, i.e., it increases the blood Ca2+ levels.
