The main function of the ciliary muscles used to change the shape of the lens in the eye to help with focusing. Another function of the ciliary muscles is to help regulate the flow of aqueous humor in the eye. The ciliary muscles are made of layers of smooth muscle in a circular shape that helps suspend the lens. The retina is a thin layer of tissue that lines the back of the eye on the inside. It is located near the optic nerve. The purpose of the retina is to receive light that the lens has focused, convert the light into neural signals, and send these signals on to the brain for visual recognition
