What is the function of rods and cones in eye ?

Rods of retina are responsible for the vision of black and white whereas cones are responsible for the vision of colours.

Cone cells are responsible for colour vision and function best in relatively bright light.
Rod cells are responsible for seeing in the dark and works in low light levels

Rods are referred to as scotopic vision while
Cones are referred to as photopic vision
