SPLIT RINGS OR COMMUTATOR RINGS :

These are two halves of the same metallic ring. The ends of the armature coil are connected to these halves which also rotate with the armature.

Function :

To reverse the direction of the current flowing through the coil. Every time the coil just passes the vertical position during a revolution.
