White blood cell, also called leukocyteor white corpuscle, a cellular component of the blood that lacks hemoglobin, has a nucleus, is capable of motility, and defends the bodyagainst infection and disease by ingesting foreign materials and cellular debris, by destroying infectious agents and cancer cells

White blood cells are a part of the immune system which helps to fight infection and defend the body against other foreign materials.

1. Neutrophils

They are the first cells of the immune system to respond in response to an invader such as a bacteria or a virus.

As first responders, they send out signals alerting other cells in the immune system to respond to the scene.

2. Eosinophils

They play an important role in fighting off bacteria and are very important in responding to infections with parasites (such as worms).

They are best known for their role in allergy symptoms.

3. Basophils

They are important in mounting a non-specific immune response to pathogens.

These cells are best known for their role in asthma.

4. Lymphocytes

They produce the antibodies that remember an infection and stand ready in case your body should be exposed.

5. Monocytes

They are the garbage trucks of the immune system.

Their most important function is to migrate into tissues and clean up dead cells.
