what is the gas that is formed when magnesium ribbon is burnt in air


Leukonov: ur answer is Hydrogen.

Leukonov: Mg+H2O→MgO+H2.... i mistook air for steam/water vapour sorry...

Magnesium Oxide Gas is formed when Magnesium Ribbon is burnt out in air.

REACTION :

2Mg + O2 ------------ 2MgO

Ur. Reaction is...
2Mg+O2(suppose O2 is what is present in air)
→2MgO.

But. it is a Compound Magnesium oxide(or Magnesia.)

But lets say it Reacts with H2O.

Mg+H2O→Mg(OH)2 +H2

And theres the Hydrogen Gas.
