Dhundiraj Govind Phalke, popularly known as Dadasaheb Phalke was born on 30 April in 1870, in a Marathi speaking Brahmin family at Trimbakeshwar in Nashik, Maharashtra and died on February 16 in 1944 in Nashik.
He was an Indian Producer, director and screenwriter.
He is considered as the 'Father of Indian Cinema'.
During his career, he made a total of 26 short films and 95 movies. His last silent movie was Setubandhan released in 1932 and later released with dubbing. He produced his last film Ganga Awtaran released in 1937 before having retired and settling to Nashik.
