INTRODUCTION:

All the bacteria are microscopic, their detailed structure can be observed only with the help of electron microscope.
-It shows the structure of typical prokaryotic cell.

The general structure of bacteria include

-Cell wall

-Cell membrane

-Chromatids substances

-Vacuoles

-Nucleoid(nuclear materials)

-Flagella

Bacteria are simple prokaryotic cells compare to Eukaryotic cells but still have a well composed cell structure. Antoni Van Leeuwenhoek was the first man to study the bacteria under the microscope.

Bacteria lacks well defined nuclei and membrane bound organelles. Bacteria are of variety of shapes such as minute spheres, cylinders, spiral heads, flagellated rods, filamentous chains etc.

1. All bacteria is enclosed in cell wall which is either Gram Positive or Gram Negative.
2. Cell Envelope - This is made up of 2 - 3 layers. This is not present in all bacteria.
3. Cell Capsule - This structure is again not present in all bacteria. most important function of capsule if present, is to prevent cell from drying out.
4. Cytoplasm - Cytoplasm of bacterial cells is where the all cell functions are carried out.
5. Cytoplasmic Membrane - This structure encloses the interior of bacteria and controls the inward/outward flow of materials and/or nutrients.
6. Flagella - This structure is not present in all bacteria. If present, flagella helps in locomotion.
7. Nucleoid - This is a region of cytoplasm where DNA is present.
8. Pili - This structure is not present in all but in many species of bacteria. This structure helps in attachment of bacteria to other cells and surfaces.
9. Ribosomes
