→ God particle was the nick name give to a subatomic particle known as " Higgs Boson ".
→ We know that, all subatomic particles determines the properties of an atom or elements or matter that it forms. So scientists believed that, this Higgs boson were responsible for the mass of an matter or object.
→ And the Scientist Higgs proposed a theory regarding this in 1960s.
What is the theory behind it?
→ The scientist "Higgs" believed that like electric field and magnetic field there exists some other field which was responsible for the mass of a object.
→ This unknown imaginary field was later named after the scientist as " Higgs Energy field ".
→ In his theory he said that, this field is present everywhere in this universe which is responsible for the mass of an object and may be involved in the formation of every objects in the universe .
→ However this couldn't explain much about the most fundamental nature of the universe (Mass) .
Proof for their existence:
2 years ago, Scientist performed an experiment by making two protons collide at a high energy in LHC or Large Hadron Collider.
→ In the LHC deep below , there was a powerful particle accelerator. And it is considered to be the largest accelerator ever built.
→ When these high speed protons collide they get split even more smaller.
→ These smaller objects were considered to be the Higgs Bosons. These were detected through scintillation effects. ( Colored light falling on screen)
Role of them in the universe.
→ As mentioned above they are responsible for the mass of an object.
→ And when particles present in universe passes through Higgs energy field they slows down and prevents all of them from reaching the velocity of tachyon and Light which is incredibly high.

God particle was a name given to Higgs Boson which is a fundamental particle ( that means it played an important role in formation of everything).
Actually we have proof for it.
It was done through an accelerator. What basically happened there was, 2 photons were collided against each other at really really high speed and this collision resulted in formation of many other particles which when compared were found to be challenging law of conservation of mass.
When this observation was conducted carefully for once more, it was found that 4 rays of blue light was leaving (Note: hope you know how E= mc^2 works ), and it was proposed that a particle was created there for a very short (eensy) interval. And there it was "The Higgs boson" as predicted by Higgs Boson (a scientist).
It is believed to present everywhere stuck and frozen in time as this universe cooled down after Big bang.
This particle (like any other fundamental particle) is (too) important for our existence.
Why?
Cause this is that same particle which prevents electrons from gaining the speed of light and get too much exited to form a stable atom.
