It is the world's largest garbage site and it was formed by the throwing of plastic by humans into the Pacific Ocean

There are five off - shore garbage collection zones in the oceans of the world. The Great Pacific Garbage Patch is the largest of these garbage accumulation zones. It is situated in the middle of Hawaii and California. It has been formed by the continuous disposal of plastic in that particular stretch of the Pacific Ocean. Most of the plastic which is disposed throughout the year in the oceans is less dense than water. Hence it will not sink but float in the water. They travel off - shore with the help of ocean currents thus accumulating in the patch. The marine life is at high risk due to this plastic pollution in the Pacific Ocean.
