The answer is 8. HCF stands for Highest Common Factor which means a number that is a factor of all the given numbers and is the largest amongst such numbers. One way this can be achieved is by prime factorisation of all the three given numbers.

48= (2*2*2)*2*3

56=(2*2*2)*7

72=(2*2*2)*3*3

Since 2*2*2 is common for all three given numbers. H.C.F= 2*2*2 = 8

To find : HCF of 54 and 44 .

Solution :

  • HCF is the highest common factor also called as greatest common divisor ,( GCD ).
  • To find HCF of 54 and 44 we find prime factors of these numbers .
  • Prime factors are:
  • Prime factors of 54 = 2\times 3\times 3\times3

                                        =2^{1}\times  3^{3}

  • Prime factors of 44 = 2\times 2\times 11

                                       = 2^{2}\times 11^{1}

  • HCF of  54 and 44 = 2

      ( since ,  2 is the only greatest common  factor of 54 and 44 )

Hence , HCF of  54 and 44  is 2 .
