What is the heat produced in a circuit when resistance is zero?

This is a tough question.

If you have 0 resistance (a short, for example putting a fork in an outlet) what happens? Sparks.. lots of heat.

However, an overload on a battery can cause the battery itself to heat up.

Tough question. Thought I would add my thoughts to get it started.
