At the Cambridge school, the instructors had had no experience in teaching any but normal pupils so Helen's only means of conversing with them was by reading their lips. Her studies for the first year were English history, English literature, German, Latin, arithmetic, Latin composition and occasional themes. In Cambridge school that Helen enjoyed the companionship of seeing and hearing girls her own age for the first time. She joined them in many games, even blind man's buff and frolics in the snow, taking long walks with them, discussing studies and reading aloud things that interested them. Some of the girls even learned to speak to Helen. Examinations for Helen were conducted in a room where she was by herself so that the noise of the typewriter did not disturb the other girls and MrGilmanwould read all the papers to Helen by means of the manual alphabet.Hope it helps!!
