Asteroid belt is the highway between Jupiter and Mars. It is a star like orbit between these two planets and the grouping is known as Asteroid Belt. During the solar system formation some of the rock piece were left over and became asteroid. Mass of this asteroid are less than the mass of moon and too small to be consider as a planet. It’s a big highway in a circle around the sun and you can consider asteroids as a car running on the highway.
