The Human Genome Project is an international scientific project started with the aim of identifying all the genes in the human DNA from both a physical and functional perspective.

The features of the Human Genome Project are:

  • The human genome has 3164.7 million nucleotide bases.
  • The average gene consists of 3000 bases. The largest human being dystrophia has 2.4 million bases.
  • The functions of 50% of the genes are not discovered yet.
  • Less than 2% of the genes encode proteins.
  • There are a large number of repeated sequences in the human genome.
  • The maximum genes are present in the chromosome I whereas least are present in chromosome Y.

Heya!!

What is Human Genome project?

Answer :-

The Human Genome Project (HGP) was an international scientific research project with the goal of determining the sequence of nucleotide base pairs that make up human DNA.

Features:-

Six features of human genome are:

a. Human genome contains 3164.7 million nucleotide bases.

b. The average gene consists of 3000 bases, but sizes vary greatly with the longest known human gene being dystrophia at 2.4million bases.

c. The functions are unknown for over 50% of the discovered genes.

d. Less than 2% of genes code for proteins.

e. Repeated sequences make up a large portion of the human genome.

f. Chromosome 1 has the most genes -2968 and Y has the fewest -231.

Thanks!!
