) Hybridisation of  SO4 ²-is Sp ³....since it has four oxygen atoms arranged tetrahedrally around it and thus there are total four sigma bonds in it which S atom makes with O and pi bond do not contribute to hybridisation.

The hybridization of SO_4^{2-} ion is sp^3.

Explanation:

  • The number of a sigma bond and lone pair of an electron gives information about the hybridization of ions.
  • An ion exhibits sp hybridization when the total obtained by adding sigma bond and lone pair is 2.
  • When the total obtained by adding sigma bond and lone pair of an electron is 3, then the ion exhibits sp^2 hybridization.
  • When the total count is 4, then it is sp^3 hybridization.
  • As SO_4^{2-} contains 4 sigma bond and 0 lone pair of electrons, it exhibits sp^3 hybridization.
