Answer:

Competitive political settlement" can be a very dangerous concept for the settlement of issues within any country. Whilst the link between economics and politics has, regrettably, become almost indissoluble, one does in fact note that over the whole wide world there is a wide variety of countries which have been successful, and others which have been abyssimal unsuccessful, in getting wise and balanced solutions in place for many basic economic issues.

What we regularly come across is that along with, and as part and parcel of, certain countries' politics there are ingrained elements like tribalism, religious conflict, caste theories and practices, corruption sourced in the megalomania of several leaders.....well all of this serves only to keep problems unsolved.....and very often the biggest of these is sheer poverty and misuse of resources: human, natural, and otherwise.

If African countries have seen the wisdom of having a very important African Union, that is a very positive sign. Through non-stop and regular discussion and dialogue different countries can exchange ideas, people, resources, investment, trade, and all that makes countries open to progress. But the African Union now needs to make a big quantum and qualitative jump. It needs to interact more actively and enthusiastically with other big similar blocks, with [perhaps the most important of these being the European Union. The EU will never hold back from offering advice and other forms of practical help and suggestions. The AU will do well to now seriously make a big jump into the post 2020 era.
