Large Population of India is residing in Rural Area. Most of the Rural people are depending on Agriculture for their livelihood. Though substantial percentage of population has migrated from Rural Area to cities or Towns in search of jobs for various reasons, still there is about 60–70 percent of people are residing in rural area. Further, most of the people in rural area are illiterates and that is why they have for their livelihood they are depending on Agriculture directly or indirectly. In addition to the above, many of the people who have completed graduation and post graduation in various fields including Engineering could not get employment opportunities due to various reasons such as lack of communication skills etc. So they are forced to depend on agriculture.

In the present scenario, in spite of Central Government’s motto of make in India, getting employment for all the graduates or even for Engineering graduates or post graduates is very uphill task due to lack of opportunities. Providing employment for all the educated is not possible for the government whether immediately or within near future. By encouraging even educated persons towards agriculture, the government can reduce the unemployment problem. The Agriculture will create sufficient number of jobs to the educated and uneducated provided government takes initiative int his regard.

For this purpose, the Government has to take the following steps to shift or divert the interest of the people towards Agriculture thereby create employment opportunities.

Declare Agriculture an Industry like any other manufacturing industry and provide incentives.

Remove welfare measures such as providing free supplies except to the needy such as old age and physically challenged persons.

Diversion of the funds of welfare measures towards the activities for providing water for at least one crop to all the farmers so as to ensure them one crop guaranteed.

Take measures to eliminate middlemen in marketing of the agriculture produce so that the farmers get good remuneration to yield for their produce.

Construction of cold storages for storage of agri produce till they get goods market price at nominal price.

Providing agriculture loans for all farmers at nominal interest with insurance coverage. This aspect is being followed in many parts of the country successfully.

Extending the subsidy for drip irrigation with restriction to use the same mandatory so as to save water and manpower.

More number of Labs should be made available to all farmers for soil and water test and recommendations from Agri Specialists from stage of seed, sowing, technology, water/pest management and varieties of crops suited for the soil.

Encouragement should be given to the plantations including fruit gardens.

Water management schemes should be implemented whole heartedly. This is because, at present various state governments spending thousands of crores of rupees on such schemes, there is no positive result for the last few decades. The reasons are known to everybody. For this purpose, the people’s representative (MLA) and Engineers of concerned department shall be made responsible if there is no positive result.

Water should be provided to the farmers on payment of charges and not free of cost. For this purpose, linking of canals may be a goods idea and government may think on it and implement it though it may be hard task and costly affair.

Agri Industries should be encouraged as it creates marketing to the farmers and also creates employment in rural areas.
