Hi Mate,

according to NCERT geography textbook, the Suez canal is important because it is a waterway connecting the Mediterranean sea and The red Sea through the Isthmus of Suez. it was opened in 1869 after 10 years of construction. The canal is used by European Maritime trade companies exchange good with India, China and South East Asia. it lies west of Sinai peninsula. before its construction, the only way to make the journey was going around South Africa through the cape of good hope route.
