The jataka takes,written in Pali,deals with the previous births of Lord Buddha.They also throw light on political,economic and social conditions ranging from fifth to second century BC. There are more than 550 such stories.

Jatakas are important as they are one of the sources to reconstruct the Buddhism movement.

In this Buddhist sacred literature, the previous births and lives of Gautam Buddha has been described. There are more than 550 such stories.

They also tell us about the political social and economic changes and conditions thats prevailed from 5th to 2nd century BC.
