Kalinga war was between Ashoka and raja antha of the state of Kalinga .as the king was not alive so his daughter durgavati faught the battle which realised Ashoka that fight is not the way to win Kingdom and he then became a buddhist

basically, Asoka wanted to win the kalinga war so that he will be able to capture complete empire but unfortunately he loses the war, and seeing the causes of the war and so many death, he decided to stop this war and become a peace lover and become a buadha.
