Inertia is the resistance offered by a body to the motion whereas momentum is the tendency of a body to continue moving.

Inertia is the property of matter which resists change in its state of motion. Unlike inertia, moment of inertia depends not only on the mass but also the distribution of mass around the axis about which the moment of inertia is to be calculated. An object can have different moments of inertia about different axes.

Momentum is similar to inertia. Like inertia, the momentum of an object depends on its mass. Unlike inertia, however, momentum takes into account how fast the object is moving. A wrecking ball that is moving very slowly, for example, has less momentum than a fast- moving wrecking ball.
