What is the length of chord which is at distance of 6cm from the center of the circle of radius 10 cm?

Given = distance from the center of circle =6 cm,

radius = 10 cm

To find = length of chord =?

solution = consider, o is the center of circle ,

and the point on the chord where the the distance is perpendicular to the base be ' A and B.

Now, see in triangle OAB

it is right angle triangle .

Hence, by Pythagoras theorem.

(OB) 2= (OA) 2+(ab) 2.

= 100-36 =( AB) 2

therefore, A B=8 cm.

therefore, the length of chord =8 +8 = '16' cm.
