Average calorie requirement for a person in rural areas is 2400 calories, whereas in urban areas it is 2100 calories. When a person in rural areas can't afford to get 2400 calories or the money required to get 2400 calories are considered to be under poverty line. If any person earns under $1.90 per day are also considered to be under poverty line
