The chief aim of the Sarva Shiksha Abhiyan is to allow children to learn about and master their natural environment in a manner that allows the fullest harnessing of their human potential both spiritually & materially. This quest must also be a process of value based learning that allows children an opportunity to work for each other’s well being rather than to permit mere selfish pursuits.

Objectives given by Teacher Training Programmes: –

1)    All children in school education guarantee centre or Alternate school by 2003 AD.

2)    All children complete 5 years of primary schooling by 2007.

3)    All children complete 8 years of schooling by 2010.

4)    Focus on elementary education of satisfactory quality with emphasis on education for life.

5)    Bridge all gender & social category gaps at primary stage by 2007 & at elementary education level by 2010.

6)    Universal retention by 2010.

Thus Sarva Shiksha Abhiyan seeks to provide quality elementary education including life skills. Further Sarva Shiksha Abhiyan had special focus on girls’ education & children with special needs. Sarva Shiksha Abhiyan also seeks to provide computer education to bridge the digital divide. Sarva Shiksha Abhiyan realizes the importance of early childhood care & education & it looks at the 0 to 14 years age as continuum.

All the effort to help, guide & support have been made to the pre-school learning in ICDS centres or special pre-school centres in the non -ICDS areas.

The program seeks to open new schools in those habitations which do not have schooling facilities & strengthen existing school infrastructure through provision by adding classrooms, toilets, drinking water facility, maintenance grant & school improvement grants.
