The main poverty line used in the OECD and the European Union is a relative poverty measure based on "economic distance", a level of income usually set at 60% of the median household income.

In April 2013, the World Bank set an goal to end extreme poverty in a generation. Their target is to have no more than 3% of the world's population living on just $1.25 a day by 2030, 10.7% of the world's population lived at or below $1.90 a day. That's down from 35% in 1990 and 44% in 1981. This means that ending extreme poverty is within their reach.
