- Main cause of poor power factor are inductive loads . Power factor is ratio of Active Power to that of the Apparent power. So, inductive loads draw Reactive power which increases Apparent power but active power consumption is less . Hence, Power factor becomes poor. Some of the equipment which uses reactive power are 3 phase induction motors , transformers & welding machines.
