isotopes which have same atomic no. but different atomic mass no. they are called isotopes.....
Now the reason for existence of isotopes can be explained by unstability of elements.Some elements are unstable so they emit neutrons in form of some radiation e.g. 14C and 13C are unstable and so they continuously emits neutrons in the form of radiation.
