I) Unemployment:
It is a major reason for poverty in India. The job seekers are increasing at a higher rate than the employment opportunity.

II) Colonial rule:
India went to a long phase low economic development under the british colonial administration. The policies of the colonial government ruined the traditional handicraft and discouraged the development of industries like textiles.

III) Unequal distribution:
Although nation income of India has been increasing since 1951 but it was not properly distributes amongst the different sections of society. A large population of increased income has been in few hands of few rich people. A majority of people live below the poverty line.

IV)High growth in population:
The rapid growth of population, particularly among the poor, is one of the major reason for Indian poverty.

V) Low rate of economic development:
The rate of growth in India has always been below the required level. These has resulted in less job opportunities. These has been accompanied by a high growth rate of population.

According to me... Corruption is the main cause bcz the money which should be used for those people..... Is used by the corrupted officers or People.... As black money...
