The film is really incomparable and praiseworthy in dealing with the most troubling educational, social and political problems in the Philippines. The story begans with an internal conflict of the main character, Melissa Santiago, narrator and teacher in the film, as she was assigned to the far-flung area of Malawig.

Explanation:

  • She found it hard to live a life in the rural environment fresh out of town college, of course. When she chose not to go to the States with her parents, her true mission, a real calling to a teacher service, was discovered and understood. Her idealism led her to an indisputable passionate character one can barely see in typical movies.
  • This is the story of struggles; struggles as Melissa attempted to solve the profoundly rooted problem of apathy, disdain, corruption, the mounting political environment in which the fathers and sons of the district recruit, not to mention the cultural barriers that were before her eyes.
  • It's not just a moving, warm-hearted film. The messages that it transmits, the characters portrayed and the issues raised are exemplary. The force of transformation from life's experiences and insights ultimately reverses the universe. Whenever struggles get on our ways, never lose hope and strive to resolve the issues it covers
  • The Small Voices actually referred to the insights and idealistic spirit of the children of Malawig. These students project positive attitudes towards life, dreams and the future, in the midst of war dangers, corrupt school personnel or desperate parents.
