Greed for food was the major flaw in Tricki.

Explanation:

  • Tricki was good in all aspects but his greed took him down.

  • He was so greedy that he could have eaten a lot of food at any time of the day.

  • When he ate two dozens eggs, wine, sweets, and other favorite dishes that Mrs. Phumery gave him he fell seriously ill.

"A Triumph of Surgery" by James Herriot is a story  about  a dog named Tricki, who is the pet of a rich lady named Mrs. Pumphrey. She loves her dog so much that she is unable to refuse him anything he wants. Tricki, is fond of eating chocolates & cream cakes. As such Mrs. Pumphrey pampers  and overfeed him.  Because of this, Tricki falls seriously ill and he had to be taken to a veterinary surgeon

Hence, Tricki's greed for food was his major flaw.

Explanation:

  • Tricki had become listless and seemed to have no energy. Mrs. Pumphrey had thought that Tricki was suffering from "malnutrition" and continued to feed Tricki such that he had become unwell, and had refused to eat anything at all, including his favorite dishes. Besides, Tricki also had bouts of nausea and had spent his entire time lying on a rug and panting
  • Rather than finding out the real reason for Tricki's condition,  Mrs. Pumphrey began feeding him extra  food such as Horlicks, malt and cod-liver. She also fed Tricki chocolates & cream cakes. Tricki, Instead of refusing to eat the extra food,  gave in to the temptation of eating the cakes and snacks. All this worsened his health.
