Mansabdari system was a progressive system adopted by Akbar for the reorganization of the army. No other Indian ruler had ever thought and planned on such lines as followed by Akbar. He tried to establish a link between chieftainship and feudalism through Mansabdari.

Mansabdars had to maintain a fixed number of troops. They were given jagirs as the payment for doing so. Later, an increase in the number of mansabs and a shortage of jagirs led to corruption and inefficiency in the system.

The mansabdari system worked fine till the death of Akbar. This resulted in the infestation of corruption in the system. The mansabdars often did not maintain the required number of soldiers which further weakened the Mughal army.
